Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
No. I am an out-of-network provider. This means I do not bill insurance directly. However, I can provide you with a superbill (a specialized medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Consult with your insurance company directly to confirm if they accept superbills and to understand their specific submission process.
Why private pay instead of insurance?
Using private pay allows us to focus entirely on your needs rather than insurance mandates. It ensures complete privacy (no diagnosis required on your permanent medical record) and allows us to determine the length and type of treatment that works best for you, not what an insurance adjuster dictates.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept all major credit cards, HSA (Health Savings Account) cards, and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) cards. Payment is due at the time of service.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients with financial need. Please inquire during our consultation to see if a spot is currently available.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 24 hours notice for cancellations. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full session fee.
How long does therapy typically last?
Therapy is different for everyone. Some clients meet their goals in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. We will regularly review your progress to ensure you are getting what you need.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions for clients located anywhere in Texas.
What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a get-to-know-you deep dive. We will discuss your history, what brings you to therapy now, and collaborate on a clear plan for our work together.
How do I know if we're a good fit?
Research shows the relationship with your therapist is one of the most important factor in success. That is why I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can get a feel for my style and ask questions before committing.
What does it mean to be under supervision?
As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-Associate), I have passed the National Counselor Examination and work under a licensed supervisor, Heather Reynolds, LPC-S. This is a standard requirement in Texas to ensure all LPC-Associates maintain high professional standards. Client confidentiality is fully protected, and no identifying information is shared. This process supports your therapy and helps ensure high quality care.
What are my rights as a client?
1. Access to Records & Complaints (Texas HB 4224)
You have the right to request access to your health information at any time. Requests for records can be made directly through me, and I am happy to explain what is available and how the process works.
If you ever have concerns about your care that you do not feel comfortable addressing with me directly, you have the right to contact the appropriate licensing board or file a consumer complaint with the State of Texas. Information is available through www.bhec.texas.gov and www.texasattorneygeneral.gov.
2. Good Faith Estimate (No Surprises Act)
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
